What should I know about cookies?

In the following section, you will find information on what a cookie is, the distinction between first and third-party cookies, the difference between session and persistent cookies, and the types of cookies we use on our website and the purpose.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on a user’s computer or mobile device when the user visits the site. Cookies are used to remember user preferences, login information, and other settings that help improve the user experience.

Cookies can also be used to track user behaviour, such as the pages they visit or the products they view, which can be used for advertising or analytic purposes. Cookies can be either ‘session’ cookies, which are deleted when the user closes their browser, or ‘persistent’ cookies, which remain on the user’s device for a specified period of time.

Cookies are an essential part of modern websites and help to provide a more personalized and efficient browsing experience.

Cookie Categories

Session cookies

Session cookies only last for the duration of your online session, meaning they are deleted from your computer or device when you close your browser. They are also known as temporary cookies. Typically, session cookies remember items a user has added to their shopping cart while browsing a website.

Persistent cookies

In contrast, persistent cookies remain on your computer or mobile device even after you close your browser. These cookies have a specific expiration date, which is speified in the cookie. You can find the duration of each persistent cookie in the section below.

What’s the difference between first-party and third-party cookies?

First-party cookies are set by the website you’re visiting and can only be accessed and read by that website.

On the other hand, third-party cookies are set by entities other than the website you’re visiting- For example, some pages may include content from other sites, such as YouTube. When you play a video from their site, YouTube may set its own cookies on your browser.

Cookies set by other sites and companies (i.e. third parties) can also be used to track your activity on other websites that use the same third-party service.

We use both first-party and third-party cookies on our website. You can find information below on which cookies on our website are first-party and third-party cookies.

How we use our Cookies

Analytical cookies

Analytical cookies collect statistics about website usage. We use this information to improve our website. The information gathered by analytical cookies tracks how you interact with our website during your visit. This helps us understand visitor usage patterns, identify and diagnose any problems or errors you may encounter, and make more informed decisions on how to improve the website experience. We will only set analytical cookies on your device if we have received your consent.

The following is a list of the analytical cookies we use, their purpose, the specific cookie providers, and their duration:

Provider: Google Analytics.

Purpose: Google Analytics is a simple, easy-to-use tool that helps website owners measure how users interact with website content.

As a user navigates between web pages, Google Analytics provides website owners JavaScript tags (libraries) to record information about the page a user has seen, for example, the URL of the page.

The Google Analytics JavaScript libraries use HTTP Cookies to “remember” what a user has done on previous pages/interactions with the website.

Other Cookies

Third-party cookies on our website

On our website, we may use outside companies and individuals, like analytics providers and content partners, to help us with specific tasks. We allow these third parties to access specific information so that they can perform certain tasks on our behalf. Generally, we favor using first-party cookies.

Currently, the only third-party provider we are using is LinkedIn. This is used on websites where LinkedIn technologies are present, such as LinkedIn Insight Tag, which is a conversion tracking tool.

The LinkedIn Insight Tag places a cookie in the website visitor’s browser, which allows LinkedIn to track conversions, retarget website visitors, and gather insights into how LinkedIn ad campaigns are performing.

LinkedIn may also use third-party cookies to provide personalized content, recommendations, and ads based on a user’s browsing history and interests. It’s important to note that LinkedIn’s use of third-party cookies is subject to its own privacy policy and terms of use.

Your Cookies, Your Control
